New releases include the next version of the Shop app, a new one-page checkout, and up to 25% better conversion for SFN merchants with the Shop Promise badge
Though commerce is always evolving, one thing remains true: those who stay on the cutting edge win. That’s why Shopify continues to build and ship tools that are not only built to last, but keep our merchants ahead of the curve and give them an unfair advantage.
At Shopify’s Winter ‘23 Edition we’re showcasing 100+ product enhancements that do just that, including updates to the Shop app that make it an out-of-the-box mobile strategy for merchants, a new one-page Checkout and Checkout customizations, and Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN) upgrades that offer the best of our consumer-facing Shop Promise badge with up to 25% better conversion. These new products are featured alongside major releases from across the Shopify platform in the last six months, including Shopify Markets Pro, POS Go, and Shopify Collabs.
“Not even a year ago we launched our first Edition, and now our Winter ‘23 Edition showcases over a hundred more products and features we’ve built in the last six months alone,” said Harley Finkelstein, President, Shopify. “We need to be the fastest moving commerce company in the world because our merchants depend on Shopify’s innovation for their own longevity. So with this Edition, we moved quickly to offer tools that help merchants access the promise of mobile commerce, meet customer expectations for seamless checkout and fast delivery, and convert better—it’s the best version of Shopify yet, and will shape the future of entrepreneurship.”
Meet the new Shop: From shopping assistant to out-of-the-box mobile strategy
More functionality for the Shop app to help merchants win in the mobile era of commerce
Since launching in 2020, Shop has evolved from an accelerated checkout and order tracking tool to become an important part of how Shopify merchants find and engage buyers. With 100 million users and 10s of millions of shoppers using Shop every month, it’s clear that mobile commerce is growing. So we’re introducing new functionality to Shop that gives merchants the tools they need for an out-of-the-box mobile strategy. New for the Winter ‘23 Edition includes:
Shop Minis: Calling all developers to help us build the next era of mobile commerce
We’re expanding the Shopify ecosystem to give developers a whole new way to build for mobile. The Shop Mini software development kit (SDK) enables devs to extend their Shopify app functionality to Shop, creating innovative in-app shopping experiences.
Shopify creates what most merchants need most of the time, and for everything else, we empower our ecosystem of developers to build for our merchants. For the first time, and available now in early access, we’re unlocking that functionality for the Shop app, allowing developers to build for the future of mobile commerce.
Shop Store customizations: Empowering merchants to build brand presence on the Shop app
We’ve seen Shop Store optimizations lead to up to a 15% increase in products added to carts in the Shop app. So we’re giving merchants the benefits of an ownable mobile experience, without the complexity of building it from scratch. Now merchants have new ways to customize their Shop Store with features like product collections, best sellers, reviews, and branding, plus partner features like the new Shop Minis to drive higher customer engagement in-app.
Shop Cash campaigns: Unlocking a new customer acquisition strategy for merchants
Shop Cash campaigns is a first-of-its-kind pay-per-sale customer acquisition channel that Shopify Plus merchants can use to engage high-impact consumers. Here’s how it works: Consumers earn Shop Cash every time they use Shop Pay. And now, with Shop Cash campaigns, Shopify Plus merchants can target these buyers with special deals and offers. Merchants only pay when a customer is acquired, and the cost-per-acquisition (CPA) never goes above their predetermined parameters. In early access of Shop Cash campaigns, merchants have seen up to a 43% increase in new customer growth.
Sign in with Shop: Boost conversion and tap into Shop’s over 100 million users with new Shop-powered sign-in features for the online store
Sign in with Shop helps merchants easily identify high-value consumers earlier in the purchase journey, while streamlining touch points with the Shop app and Shop Pay to increase conversion by 8%. Other new Shop-powered features that can help merchants boost conversion include:
- Passkeys: When signing in with Shop on Apple and Android devices consumers can use biometric passkeys—facial or fingerprint—for an even easier sign in experience.
- Follow on Shop: An easy way for merchants to extend and solidify their relationship with the customer from the online store to the Shop app.
- Lead capture with Shop: Merchants can optimize lead capture by automatically signing in high-value shoppers and offering a personalized experience, like a discount at checkout.
New one-page Checkout and Checkout extensions
The world’s greatest checkout, now one page and with code-free customizations
The internet's best-converting checkout is becoming more streamlined. Shopify's Checkout will default to a one-page experience that's optimized using all of our learnings from Shop Pay. All app-based customizations will work automatically with the new design, making for a faster, friction-free and higher-converting standard for checking out.
We’re also bringing more extensibility tools to the most important step in commerce: making the sale. Now, instead of editing code in the checkout.liquid theme file, Shopify Plus merchants can install apps to add functionality to checkout through an all new Checkout Editor, with drag and drop simplicity and easy to use branding tools. This makes a merchant's customizations upgrade-safe, so they never miss out on new Shopify features. The result is a faster, higher-converting checkout with all customizations working seamlessly with Shop Pay for the first time.
Recently, we made it possible for developers to build apps for code-free customizations, and now we’re giving them even more flexibility to build bespoke checkout apps with our UI component library, UI extension and branding APIs, and Functions. This pairing—new extensibility solutions with enhanced dev tooling—gives merchants a powerful way to make Checkout their own.
The best of Shop Promise with SFN
We’re supercharging our consumer-facing Shop Promise badge with up to 25% better conversion for merchants using SFN
Shop Promise is now automatically enabled on storefronts for merchants using Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN), allowing them to easily communicate fast, reliable delivery to customers and achieve up to 25% higher conversion rates. We’ve also strengthened our configurable port-to-porch offering to help merchants of any size get the ultimate benefits of Shop Promise coverage, including:
- A new Flexport app for an improved self-serve ocean freight booking experience, and direct integration with the SFN app to offer merchants freight tracking and complete visibility of their inventory from Chinese ports to the US
- Unified SFN and Deliverr network for data-driven inventory distribution, positioning inventory closest to buyer demand
- Advanced returns functionality and a new Loop Returns integration means merchants can now offer instant exchanges and credits
In addition to these new releases launching at our Winter ‘23 Edition, we’re also featuring 100+ updates from across Shopify’s entire platform over the last six months, including:
- Shopify Markets Pro, our native merchant-of-record solution powered by our partnership with Global-e that makes it simple for Shopify merchants to expand their businesses globally to 150+ countries overnight.
- POS Go, powerful new hardware to deliver world-class IRL shopping experiences. POS Go empowers merchants to meet consumers wherever they are and however they want to shop—from counter to curb.
- Shopify Collabs, a tool for creators to easily discover and partner with Shopify’s millions of merchants for free, and for merchants to discover and manage their relationships with creators and engage with high-impact audiences.
